Trend 1: Productivity
The staffing industry is expected to grow by 6%, down from 7% during 2018. This means that fewer companies are hiring, but some roles are more in demand than ever. The result is that more work has to be done by only 6% more people; a tricky ask if productivity isn’t increasing. This trend applies mainly to North America and Europe however; Japan, China, India and Continental Europe are growing by over 10% each.
Companies are focusing on their business-critical roles more than ever, but the pain will still be felt by employees who aren’t getting the support they need in terms of extra capacity. One solution is to streamline existing job roles, but the option businesses of all kinds are favouring at present is the adoption of technology which is able to do more, cheaper.
Trend 2: Technology
Recruiters and their clients are spending more on technology in a bid to enhance productivity, get access to the best candidates, and enhance their employer value proposition. The demand for tech workers will continue to skyrocket as a result; in the next decade developers, statisticians and mathematician roles will grow by 30%, 33% and 29% respectively.
However, some roles will become obsolete due to the implementation of technology. Companies are predicted to save around $8 billion by using chatbots for example, meaning that front line customer service agents and other customer-facing roles might soon become a thing of the past.
Trend 3: Candidate Experience
At present, 78% of employers say they don’t measure candidate satisfaction. Statistics show that over three quarters of employers are missing out on the invaluable feedback candidates can provide which can then be used to improve or revamp the hiring process. What’s more, nearly 4 in 5 candidates believe that the candidate experience is an indicator of how a company treats its people.
Given the statistics that 80-90% of candidates say that a positive or negative experience will influence their view of a company, it’s wise for every employer to take the candidate experience seriously, particularly in an age where any candidate worth their salt will do online research before applying or entering the hiring process.
